The YMCA of India is rooted in the belief that every individual deserves opportunity, dignity, and community. We unite people of all ages and backgrounds as co-workers with God to build compassionate, humane communities.
Our mission is to restore abundant life for all—especially those who are marginalized and dehumanized—by fostering holistic development of body, mind, and spirit.

History
Global Origin (1844):
Founded by George Williams in London as a Bible-study and mutual aid society among young tradesmen.
India (1891–Today):
YMCA India began in Madras and expanded to 700+ units with 300,000+ members—the largest YMCA in Asia–Pacific.
Regional Impact:
- South West India: Based in Aluva, 510 units
- Southern India: Based in Chennai, 200+ YMCAs
Pioneering Leader – K. T. Paul
First Indian National Secretary (1916), led rural empowerment and modern community programs.
